Job Title:           Irrigation Foreman

Salary:                24.43 to 27.79 per hour

 

Summary of Duties: Under the immediate supervision of the Park Supervisor perform skilled work related to maintenance and performance of irrigation system, parks and recreation facilities, grounds, pathways, and landscape.

Essential Employee Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all aspects of irrigation throughout the Township.
  • Manages scheduling, data input, and programming of all computer irrigation software.
  • Responsible for the repair and diagnostics of all computer hardware.
  • Responsible for proper maintenance and calibration of the on-site weather station.
  • Works directly with multiple entities and utilities to ensure proper communication levels are reached within the computerized irrigation software.
  • Holds level of IQ4 Expert Factory Trained Certification or any certifications deemed necessary and is a TCEQ licensed Irrigator.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and operations of multiple irrigation pump stations for systems that use non-potable water supplies.
  • Responsible for review of invoicing by contractors and advising supervisory staff on quotations presented by the contractors.
  • Supervises any contractors necessary.
  • Facilitates the quoting process to include the review of proposals for new installations, hardware issues and irrigation repairs.
  • Reviews and makes suggestions regarding all irrigation plans.
  • Manages reports pertaining to water conservation and irrigation repairs.
  • Educates and informs the staff and the general public on matters related to water conservation.
  • Promotes ideas and solutions to improve irrigation systems with the goal of water conservation.
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of sports turf and ground maintenance principles, practices, and methods.
  • Responds to all requests written or verbal as it relates to water conservation and irrigation.
  • Responsible for managing any pond or lake filling devices and any water wells in the system.
  • Coordinates and manages irrigation to ensure that each system is in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
  • Works closely with the Parks and Recreation staff (Superintendents, Supervisors and Foremen) to coordinate and manage the drought management plan.
  • Responsible for updating any plans related to water use and conservation.
  • Reports directly to the Parks Supervisor.
  • Employee may be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of: Extensive knowledge of general irrigation construction, and maintenance principles, practices and methods. Advanced knowledge of irrigation techniques; familiarity with smart watering systems and the intent of the systems and its components. Prior knowledge in landscape and sports turf mechanics with the ability to recognize changing conditions and the adjustments needed to irrigation systems.

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience: Four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a Texas driver’s license within the first ninety (90) days of employment and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
  • Must possess or obtain within the first (1) year of employment, TCEQ Licensed Irrigator certification.
  • Must possess or obtains within the first (1) year of employment, Rainbird IQ Software level factory training certification.

Computer Skills: Rainbird IQ 4 or greater Software Training is preferred. Ability to create logs and spreadsheets, and use work order systems such as Tyler.
