Typical Work Day

The Golf Course Mechanic will perform major and minor mechanical repairs on gasoline and diesel equipment. This person will be responsible for inspecting, adjusting, and diagnosing mechanical defects of all equipment assigned to the department. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and will complete assignments efficiently. Previous experience as a mechanic, knowledge in repairs of small rotary mowers, handheld equipment and electrical circuity and/or the completion of coursework in mechanics from an accredited school or ASE certification is required.

 

Tasks:

  • Routine maintenance and repair of equipment such as a fleet of riding and hand mowers and sweepers.
  • Routine maintenance include sharpening blades and height adjustments of all cutting units.
  • Daily inspections of golf course equipment.
  • Changing oil and tires, inspecting and setting up equipment.
  • General overhaul and maintenance of motors/small engines
  • Orders parts/supplies required to perform such repairs.
  • Keeping a clean and well-organized parts inventory section.
  • Proper recycling and/or disposal of various oils, compounds and other fluids.

Mechanic must have a valid driver license and be able to drive various types of golf carts and utility vehicles in order to complete his above tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a working knowledge of the general operations of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment. The proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written direction
  • Requires a mechanical ability; ability to use common mechanical tools.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, sit, walk, use hands to grasp, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. Finger dexterity if needed to operate tools and equipment. The work consists of repetitive golf course tasks. This position requires the employee to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and /or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifts and carries heavy equipment and/or materials to perform assignments. In addition, the work will require seasonal exposure to extreme weather conditions, snakes, and insects.
