Typical Work Day

The Golf Course Irrigation Technician daily performance include install, assemble, and maintain commercial landscape irrigation pipes and systems. Duties include, but are not limited to handling the materials for irrigation, troubleshooting irrigation systems and programming controllers. When not working with irrigation, Irrigation Technicians assist the crew in all aspects of landscape labor, including planting, pruning, and maintenance. They must know how to efficiently work with tools such as shovels, rakes, and general landscape hand tools, plus assist in keeping sites clear and clean, weeding, edging, mowing, blowing, and trimming. Perform a variety of other functions when requested.

 

Tasks:

  • Designs, implements and maintains mechanical and electrical components of complex irrigation system.
  • Repairs equipment associated with irrigation
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all equipment associated with irrigation
  • Maintains complete records on all equipment maintenance associated with irrigation
  • Trains and supervises staff assigned to irrigation responsibilities
  • Controls expenses associated with irrigation and activities
  • Maintains inventory of parts needed for irrigation equipment
  • Irrigates all grounds as needed
  • Performs other ongoing course maintenance duties as required

Irrigation Technician must have a valid driver license and be able to drive various types of golf carts and utility vehicles in order to complete his above tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience and knowledge of irrigation system management
  • Experience and knowledge of irrigation equipment repairing and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Knowledge of Toro Lynx two wire irrigation system is an asset
  • Good Communication Skills
  • Enthusiasm for golf is an asset
  • Welding and fabrication experience is an asset
  • Pesticide Applicator certification is an asset

 

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to lift, pull and push up to 50 lbs. Carry materials, bend, twist, kneel, climb and balance. Ability to work in a kneeling position for extended periods. Ability to work in the rain and in extreme temperatures. Ability to withstand dust, pollen and gas fumes on a daily basis.

 

The Golf Course Irrigation Technician primarily works outdoors and may work above ground, sub-surface or in water. A certain amount of strength, dexterity, and alertness is necessary due to proximity to equipment, tools, and other trades. Irrigation Technicians work in so many carried conditions, they must be knowledgeable of the hazards and safety requirements of each project.
