Job Title: Parks Supervisor, Natural Resources
Salary: $58,010 to $65,687
Summary of Duties: Under general direction, plans and supervises the installation, maintenance and repairs of parks and recreation facilities, amenities, physical plants, equipment and improvements.
Essential Employee Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Duties:
- Respond to customer submissions, work orders, and resident calls for service.
- Prepare timecards and payroll reports for all employees under supervision.
- Coordinate facilities maintenance and construction with other activities such as operations, recreation programs, tournaments, leagues, casual park activities, and daily office area activities.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications for the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Inspect and analyze work methods, levels of productivity, and maintenance standards and institute improvements for greater efficiency, economy, and quality, maintain records and make reports.
- Complete Certified Park Safety Inspector (CPSI) evaluations of park playground equipment.
- Observe and enforce safety precautions and safety rules and regulations; require safe working procedures by subordinates; maintain work areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition; operate maintenance equipment as required.
- Included in the on-call rotation for the Parks and Recreation Department and emergency response team.
- May be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific to Natural Resources:
- Supervise and assist in maintaining grounds, landscapes and common areas by watering, mowing, aerating, top dressing, fertilizing, re-seeding, renovation, planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, and by other actions as necessary to keep parks and recreation grounds, landscape and common areas in the best possible condition. Supervise, assist and coordinate equipment maintenance on all required equipment maintenance activities.
- Assist in the preparation of the Natural Resources section of the annual budget and maintenance management program and assist in monitoring this section of the budget and plan.
- Supervise, inspect, and monitor landscape, grounds, irrigation and pond maintenance contractors.
- Plan, schedule and supervise all aspects of the Natural Resource Division which includes, but is not limited to Landscaping, Irrigation, Sports Field maintenance, Lake and Pond management, Wildlife management, Park drainage systems, and Open Space Reserves.
- Inspect the open space reserves, wildlife habitats, parks and common areas and maintenance equipment regularly and recommend improvements.
- Interview and select new employees, train subordinates in the technical aspects of landscape, grounds maintenance, forestry practices, open space reserves, etc.
- Oversee and Implement Turf action plans for all 40+ sports fields, and 150+ parks.
- Schedule and plan irrigation management through web based and field-based systems to accommodate maintenance practices, reservations, and events.
- Review invoices, approve proposals, and monitor pertaining budgets in accordance with divisional activities and needs.
- Monitors and oversees work order system for the division while providing schedules and setting priorities for work submitted.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises approximately 15 crew members. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.
Work performed by those being supervised is semi-complex.

Education: Associate degree (A. A.) in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Park Administration, Turf Science or Horticulture, or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum Three (3) years of related experience with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess or obtain within the first ninety (90) days of employment a valid Texas driver’s license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
- Must obtain Certified Park Safety Inspector (CPSI) within 6 months of hire.
- Must obtain CPRP certification within 2 years of hire date.
