2nd Assistant Athletic Fields — Sports Field Solutions (UT-San Antonio)

 

Description:  Sports Field Solutions at UT- San Antonio have one 2nd Assistant position available for full time employment. Applicants with turf management degrees are preferred as well as those with previous baseball/softball field maintenance experience. This position is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is eager to learn all facets of maintaining high quality playing surfaces. This position may require working long hours, nights and weekends.   This position is responsible for maintaining playing fields, clay areas, and common areas at the facility to ensure a safe and competitive playing surface that exceeds NCAA Division I standards.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, maintain and restore grounds within assigned field as directed, including any and all activities or tasks fundamental to baseball/softball field care.
  • Recognize, prioritize, and implement best course of action practices in all aspects of field preparation.
  • Maintain all clay areas including: infield skin, mounds, home plate and warning track
  • Report/address field issues such as turf stress, disease, irrigation problems, etc.
  • Monitor, report, and resolve irrigation issues, problems and/or concerns on assigned field complex.
  • Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, sprayers and sod cutters.
  • Assist with tarp handling and inclement weather situations
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be recently graduated from a turf management or horticultural program. Grounds-related experience may be considered in lieu.
  • Take pride in the quality of your work and work ethic
  • Able to lift, carry and transport up to 50lbs and stand and work for long periods of time, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an outgoing personality

Compensation:

$14.42-$16.82/hr

Groundskeeper I – Moneygram Soccer Park (Dallas)

Job Purpose: Maintain the grounds and fields of MoneyGram Soccer Park in Dallas, TX.

Job Duties

  • Assist in keeping MoneyGram Soccer Park tidy, organized and safe.
  • Waters all plants, flowers and grass on property by hand, sprinkler or other methods as needed.
  • Mows and trims all lawn areas.
  • Removes weeds by hand, chemicals or string trimmer.
  • Planting, sodding, seeding and other gardening jobs as needed.
  • Maintains and operates drip watering system.
  • Keeps all related equipment clean, maintained and stored properly.
  • Operates all equipment in safe and considerate manner.
  • Keeps equipment storage room neat, clean and organized.
  • Keeps the entire property free of litter, cigarette butts and other trash.
  • Operates a variety of maintenance equipment.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to irrigation systems and field maintenance.
  • Mixes and applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides as instructed.
  • Shall perform other duties as needed.

Sports Field Manager — Prairie View A&M University

This is an exciting opportunity to manage the new track and field complex, soccer stadium, football stadium, baseball and softball fields at Prairie View A&M University. This position is great for someone who would like to showcase their work at a Division I Athletic Property.

Currently the Football Field is Artificial Turf all other sports fields are 419 Bermudagrass. This position will be but not limited to responsibility for the following:

  • Supervising the construction, maintenance and scheduling of sports fields and facilities;
  • Overseeing the purchasing, maintenance and repair of equipment used on sports fields and the specifying and purchasing of all products and services;
  • Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the employer and user groups, as required;

The sports turf manager assumes responsibility for managing and maintaining sports fields and facilities, which may include:

  • Athletic fields (natural grass and synthetic surfaces)
  • Field management equipment
  • Irrigation systems
  • Stadium, Facility grounds, landscaping/ornamentals and xeriscaping
  • Tree inventory and management
  • Tennis courts, running tracks, and other sports and recreational facilities
  • Parking lots and special game day parking areas

Additional functions In addition, the sports turf manager may assume the following responsibilities:

  • Manages construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of sports facilities, whether performed in-house or by outside contractors
  • Interviews, hires, trains, directs and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the sports facilities and other properties. He/she has the authority to evaluate, discipline and terminate employment of subordinates
  • Keeps accurate and complete records on inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, chemical applications, etc.
  • Plans maintenance and project work to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and master plan to comply with ADA requirements, and oversees the training, scheduling and deploying of personnel to accomplish the work in compliance with OSHA and Worker Right-to-Know standards
  • Develops and implements plans to reduce impacts on the environment including recycling, storm water management, waste management and erosion control; achieve LEED certification, and improve the overall sustainability of the facilities
  • Manages inventory and oversees the preventive equipment maintenance and replacement programs
  • Communicate with users of the field (coaches, players, parents, spectators) if necessary.
  • Communicates regularly with other members of the top management team to discuss activities, goals, plans and user input
  • Baseball Specific: Manages infield skin, mound and home plate areas, grass to skin transition.

Pay Rate will be dependent upon experience.

Sports Field Solutions (SFS) is headquartered in Fort Worth, TX.  SFS specializes in natural grass, sports field construction. Our projects range from small renovations on high school fields throughout Texas to multi-million dollar facilities. We have the honor of calling the Texas Rangers, Baylor University, University of North Texas, and the University of Texas at San Antonio among our clients.

SFS is seeking candidates for the position of Crew Member at our Ft. Worth Location.

Qualifications:

  • Landscape/Construction experience preferred but not necessary
  • Experience/willingness to operate equipment in the field
  • Sports Turf/Golf Course maintenance preferred
  • Valid Drivers License, or the ability to attain one
  • Ability to handle physical labor in an outdoor climate for an extended amount of time
  • Ability to lift/handle 50+ pounds in certain situations
