Squaw Valley Golf Course is looking for an energetic self-starter to serve as an assistant to the superintendent.  Squaw Valley is a 36-hole, top-rated municipal golf course located approximately 45 miles southwest of the DFW Metroplex.

General Responsibilities include: Assist the superintendent with agronomic planning and implementation, crew supervision, training, scheduling, pesticide application, irrigation control, record keeping, purchasing, inventory control.

Requirements: 2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field.  Must have or ability to obtain a pesticide license within 6 months.  Understanding the game and the ability to play is a plus.

Experience: Preferred but not limiting

Salary: $32,960 – $41,200 DOE

Scope of Job Responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of assigned athletic fields.
Coordinate and perform specialized work on assigned fields as specified in turf maintenance
program. Assist with in-game field management and operations, pre-game set-up, and postgame
Description of Duties • Develops, plans, manages, directs and assists with the daily, short and long-term sports turf
maintenance program based on field usage, specific requirements for individual events, and
field turf needs.
• Provides daily operations management of allocated resources and equipment to ensure that all
university playing surfaces and surrounding areas are expertly conditioned to provide optimum
levels of safety, performance, and appearance.
• Provides direction in conjunction with grounds maintenance supervisor and assists Athletics
fields maintenance crew in performing the daily maintenance of all inter-collegiate athletic fields
and the surrounding landscape/horticulture operations to include: mowing, weed-eating, and
edging; irrigation testing, maintenance, repair, and installation; cultural practices to include sod
replacement, verticutting, aerating, topdressing, fertilization, seeding, and spraying; soils
analysis and amendment; grooming, striping, and painting.
• Responsible for maintaining supervision over pest control management on turf and sports
• Insures maintenance and upkeep of all equipment inventory such as riding reel and push
mowers, top dressers, vertacutter, coring and blade aerifiers, trimmers, blowers, and other
related equipment.
• Prepares budget line-items within the athletics department budget pertaining to athletic fields
and special events labor, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists with the planning, strategizing, and running university athletic events in coordination
with the athletic event staff. Will provide support in the set-up, take-down and execution of
athletic competition.
• Develops and main tains effective relationships with internal and external customers through
oral and written communications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Assistant Sports Field Manager — Texas State University

Texas State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Sports Turf Manager (Field Maintenance Technician). This is a full-time twelve-month, benefits eligible position. Duties include mowing and trimming grounds, maintaining and marking game fields, preparing fields for sport program games and practices, maintaining, servicing and adjusting equipment, maintaining work logs, mileage and equipment manuals and chemical records and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of turf maintenance equipment
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices and procedures related to the turf industry
  • Knowledge of mixing procedures for applying chemicals on athletic fields
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Ability to read and understand MSDS, equipment manuals, chemical labels and field equipment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in related field
  • Prior work experience in athletics grounds maintenance
