2007 Summer
Conference
Opportunity,
Education, and Community
Almost 200 turf
professionals attended TTA’s 2007 Summer Conference July 8 -10th
in College Station. If you haven’t heard, our conferences are
ideal for learning something new or discovering a new product or
service offered by vendors.
The education
sessions covered a range of practical topics presented by
leaders in the field. The technical sessions offered skills and
ideas ranging from irrigation requirements, pesticide exposure,
and weed control, to product testing, and staying up to date on
laws and regulations that affect the industry.
The conference
included motivating and insightful talks from Coach Mark
Johnson, keynote speaker, and Dr. Susan Fiechner, who spoke
about dealing with problem employees. Both Coach Johnson and
Dr. Fiechner’s talks were described as entertaining, motivating,
and informative. That’s one of the strengths of our
conferences, they provide a time to relax, listen to someone
with insight, and perhaps gain a new or different perspective on
issues at work or in life.
The educational
program concluded with a field trip to the research turf plots
and athletic fields at Texas A&M University. The tours of the
turf plots highlighted the work researchers are doing to come up
better turf and turf practices in the areas of water usage,
chemicals, and turf varieties. From the turf plots, the field
trip moved to the Texas A&M soccer field, softball field, and
then to Kyle field, and finally to the outdoor football practice
field and the indoor artificial turf facility where there were
discussions about maintenance, disease and pest control, design
and renovation considerations, and irrigation and drainage.
Of course there was
plenty of time for fun and networking. The golf tournament at
Miramont Country Club drew in many players. Additionally, a
hospitality event brought together attendees and vendors in a
relaxed atmosphere for one last time.
We’d like to invite
you to check out TTA’s conference opportunities. If you missed
our summer conference, be sure to make your plans for the Annual
Conference and Trade Show in San Antonio, December 17-19th!
