Assistant Golf Course Superintendent; Lakeside Country Club; Houston, TX

Founded in 1951, Lakeside Country Club is a premier private member-owned country club in the West Houston area.  Members and guest alike enjoy the wide array of traditionally elegant facilities which include A’la Carte dining, casual dining, swimming and lap pools, tennis courts, golf pro shop, 18 hole golf course, Par 3 course, teaching facility and state-of-the-art fitness facility.

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in the planning and implementation of all agronomic procedures on the golf course and club grounds.

Requirements

2 -4 Year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field

A working knowledge of general golf course maintenance

Category 3A Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator’s License or be willing to obtain within 90 days of employment

Experience or familiarity to operate a Toro Site Pro Irrigation System

Self- motivated, posses a strong work ethic and eye for detail to maintain the highest level and consistency of golf course maintenance standards

Ability to operate all golf course equipment

Good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to interact with employees at all levels

Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.  Must be self-directed and demonstrate initiative

Desire to grow as a turfgrass manager in order to advance in career

Responsibilities

 Reports directly to the golf course superintendent

Help oversee and performs all chemical and fertilizer applications and maintains accurate and up to date records as required by TDA

Works closely with the Superintendent, Equipment Manager and other team members to assure the department runs in a safe and efficient manner

Close and concise communication with other department managers for any needs they may have regarding the golf course or grounds

Assists in properly training the crew for equipment operation and all job tasks

Maintains quality control of daily golf course maintenance tasks

Schedules daily work assignments and executes daily goals and projects with the Superintendent’s directive

Monitor irrigation controls, pumps and wells

Salary and Benefits

Grounds Irrigation Technician III; College Station, TX

Irrigation Technician III

Department: Grounds Management

Reports To: Irrigation Supervisor

Brief Summary

This is a position that requires general supervision from Irrigation Supervisor and requires routine labor associated with irrigation management including digging, pipe repair, head & valve replacement and small equipment operation. Job entails use of math and estimation skills to calculate proper irrigation regimes through audit and calibration. This position requires the individual to work safely and ensure that all safety procedures as outlined by; SSC Service Solutions, The University, OSHA, ANSI, EPA, State and local agencies as they apply to landscape and grounds management or facilities tasks be adhered to.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement, and adjust irrigation schedules as directed by Irrigation Supervisor.
  • Repairs existing underground sprinkler and drip systems including malfunctioning heads, nozzles, adjusts spray heads for correct coverage.
  • Replace malfunctioning valves, pressure control devices and adjusts water flow and repair. Replace PVC lateral lines and PVC and iron constant pressure water supply lines.
  • Inspects irrigated areas and routinely exercises irrigation systems to test for malfunctions, breaks, and wetting coverage of lawns, trees, shrubs, and ground covers.
  • Installs new systems and modifies old systems according to plans or blueprints. Prepares site with trenching equipment or hand digging; lays, cuts, prepares and glues PVC pipe and fittings; inserts valves and connects to controller; inserts and sets sprinkler heads; backfills trenches and levels soil surface.
  • Apply a surgical approach to all work. Completed work should look professional.
  • Mitigate all irrigation related safety hazards.
  • Perform work in a safe method following all safety protocol.
  • Operate various types of equipment including trenchers or small tractors, hand held power equipment and hand tools.
  • Responsible to maintain records for all work or services performed
  • Attend training as required.
  • Deploy for emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow, and ice, tornado or other catastrophes.
  • Other duties assigned by Irrigation Supervisor.
  • Maintain professional communication with other technicians, irrigation supervisor, and the general public.

Working Conditions

Extensive driving, walking, and equipment operation.  Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment, paint, and petroleum products. Work time expectation: 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.

Requirements

Three years’ experience performing irrigation repairs or demonstration of consistently superior performance. Exhibit ability to work independently.  Possess an Irrigation Technician License or Irrigator License. Possess Backflow Tester License. Possess a valid driver’s license.  High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak English. The ability to repeatedly lift 25 lbs. and kneel/bend/stoop for extended periods of time.
