Ryan-Sanders Sports Services (RS3 Turf) is a sports field specialty construction and maintenance contractor that handles all phases of natural and synthetic turf jobs for professional, collegiate, municipal, and high school facilities, from excavation and sub base through installation and maintenance. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically:

§  Assist with the renovation of sports field surfaces, facilities, stadiums and complexes in the State of Texas requiring travel and overnight stays.

§  Construct and/or repair grass surfaces through demolition of area, rototilling, addition of soil amendments, grading, and installation of plant material (seed or sod).

§  Maintain and/or revive damaged sports turf through repair of damaged area (remove divots, fill holes), and use of continuous over-seeding program.

§  Prepare soil surfaces such as baseball/softball infield and mounds. Blend appropriate mixture of sand, clay, and other soils to provide appropriate surface in areas, such as pitcher’s mound, home plate, or long jump pit.

§  Repair irrigation systems including the control box, circulation pipes, drain pipes, valves, and heads. Clean head and valve boxes, complete head adjustments, and ensure a level surface around heads.

§  Apply Pesticides through Backpack applications to control weed, insect and fungal problems.

§  General landscaping of both athletic and recreation areas – work includes planting, weeding, cultivation, ground cover pruning, vine and shrub pruning, mulching, leaf pick-up, tree trimming (up to 25 feet), brush pick-up and chipping, mowing, edging, and blowing clippings off landscape.

§  Maintain tools and equipment in clean safe manner and log all use as required. Maintain safe working conditions and follow (conform to) the health and safety policies in place.

Prefer a two-year degree from an accredited in horticulture, agronomy or related field helpful;

POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to eliminate pests and weeds on all park properties in the City utilizing specialized equipment and best management practices. The City of Farmers Branch will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first serve basis. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice after a three business day minimum posting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Diagnoses plant and turf problems, recommends appropriate treatment and schedules work. Eliminates pests using best management practices and specialized equipment on park properties. Organizes equipment and supplies for daily assignments, performs routine maintenance on equipment, accurately measures and applies chemicals on target pests, and completes written documentation of work performed.
Works special events and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.
Three years related experience required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and weekends and holidays as needed. Subject to “on-call/stand-by” duty and required to be in an on-call rotation.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Must obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License to successfully complete the six-month probationary period. Must have Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in Landscape Maintenance (3A), Vegetation Management (5), and Aquatic (6), prior to employment.

Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP) from the Texas Nursery and Landscape (TNLA) Association preferred.

Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work involves exposure to disagreeable elements, noise and smoke fumes; involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 100 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The Chemicals Specialist I position has an hourly salary range of $19.05 – $28.57. This is a full time position and employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision and other benefits on the first day of employment.

Primary Purpose:
This position is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Athletic Fields. Responsibilities include,
but are not limited to: the maintenance, repair, painting, fertilizing, spraying cultural practices and mowing the
athletics fields, fertilization, irrigation, field painting and preparation for athletic contests, game day set up.

Experience:
Experience in athletic filed maintenance is strongly desired. Considerable experience in the
operation and maintenance of athletic field facilities is preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
The ideal candidate should have considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, equipment
and tools used in the maintenance of athletic fields preferably baseball/softball fields.
Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions in the general labor and maintenance work is
preferred. Candidate should show skill in demonstrating and teaching proper use and care of tools and
equipment in athletic field maintenance. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written
instructions.
Grounds and Landscaping
1. Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
2. Follow scheduled maintenance plan to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering,
pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.
3. Plant shrubs and vegetation.
4. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
5. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
Grounds Technician II
6. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.
Safety
7. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.
8. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
9. Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
10. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.

Scope of Job Responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of assigned athletic fields.
Coordinate and perform specialized work on assigned fields as specified in turf maintenance
program. Assist with in-game field management and operations, pre-game set-up, and postgame
procedures.
Description of Duties • Develops, plans, manages, directs and assists with the daily, short and long-term sports turf
maintenance program based on field usage, specific requirements for individual events, and
field turf needs.
• Provides daily operations management of allocated resources and equipment to ensure that all
university playing surfaces and surrounding areas are expertly conditioned to provide optimum
levels of safety, performance, and appearance.
• Provides direction in conjunction with grounds maintenance supervisor and assists Athletics
fields maintenance crew in performing the daily maintenance of all inter-collegiate athletic fields
and the surrounding landscape/horticulture operations to include: mowing, weed-eating, and
edging; irrigation testing, maintenance, repair, and installation; cultural practices to include sod
replacement, verticutting, aerating, topdressing, fertilization, seeding, and spraying; soils
analysis and amendment; grooming, striping, and painting.
• Responsible for maintaining supervision over pest control management on turf and sports
surfaces.
• Insures maintenance and upkeep of all equipment inventory such as riding reel and push
mowers, top dressers, vertacutter, coring and blade aerifiers, trimmers, blowers, and other
related equipment.
• Prepares budget line-items within the athletics department budget pertaining to athletic fields
and special events labor, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists with the planning, strategizing, and running university athletic events in coordination
with the athletic event staff. Will provide support in the set-up, take-down and execution of
athletic competition.
• Develops and main tains effective relationships with internal and external customers through
oral and written communications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
